R134a and R1234YF have different low pressure port types, so you should never use a recharge adapter to add the wrong type of refrigerant. You cannot add R1234YF refrigerant to a R134a system nor can you add R134a refrigerant to a R1234YF system. It flashes 2 long and 6 short flashes consistently. After a few weeks the air bag light began flashing. There is an AC sticker in the engine bay of your 2002 Protege that indicates if it requires R134a refrigerant or the newer R1234YF type to do a recharge. We recently had the drivers side seat belt buckle (where you plug the belt into) replaced because the original had cracked. What type of refrigerant does a 2002 Mazda Protege use? Air conditioning systems can vary so it is critical that you check the sticker in the engine bay to determine your Protege refrigerant type. Typically the AC recharge kit you buy will have enough capacity to add enough freon to get the AC in your Protege to blow cold air. I tried the recharge kit, seemed to help a little, meaning the air was colder for the 1st 20 minutes or so, then back to warm. In addition to cooling, freon lubricates the compressor when it runs. The ac started acting up a few months ago, it would start blowing cold and then 20 minutes later nothing but warm air. When your compressor kicks on, add freon to the correct pressure. Ignoring a low level leads to big problems. If your brake fluid is a little low, learn how to add some here. Once you find the 2002 Protege AC low pressure port cap, hook up the can of refrigerant to the low pressure port. The cabin air filter in a Protege refers to the filter that filters the air inside your vehicle (where you and your passengers sit) whereas the air filter filters the air that goes into your engine. How do you recharge AC in a 2002 Mazda Protege? The low side AC port location is the first thing to find when you are looking for how to put freon in a car. If there is a problem with your compressor or evaporator, adding freon will not restore cooling. The A/C system in your Protege consists of a compressor that is belt-driven, an evaporator and freon. Most refrigerants include a leak sealer that will seal small leaks in addition to filling the R134a freon. Recharging the freon in your AC system is an inexpensive and easy first step to restoring the cooling capacity of your A/C system. Thermal R&D cat back (what I'm running and have been very happy with, great note under WOT and little to no drone. When the air conditioner in your 2002 Mazda Protege starts blowing hot air, you likely have a freon leak. Mazdaspeed axle back (the one found on the MSP - 03 has a round tip, 03.5 has an oval tip and either one would need to be shortened about 4" between the muffler and tip) Mazdaspeed axle back (the one made and sold by Mazda specifically for the P5 - some say it drones badly at highway speeds) Possible to use the 626 as well but then you lose the function of the rear wiper. You can use them from a 99+ MPV as well as the Escape or Tribute. My only complaint with them was they tend to leave the lower left area of the DS dirty but not in the line of sight.ĬDM head lights (either genuine Canadian lights with black housings from the factory or the DIY) Minor exterior mod is using the Tribute washer nozzles which offer a better spray than the stock nozzles. Wheels with a diameter greater than 17" may require a very low profile tire and/or fender rolling, depending on your suspension set-up.P5s, along with many other Mazdas, use a 5x114.3 MM lug pattern.I in no way endorse these vendors/products, nor do I or Mazdas24/7 bear any responsibility for any transactions or experiences with these vendors/products, should you choose to utilize them.
